The Sam Davis Trophy 2014

The Sam Davis Trophy was shot on two consecutive Thursday evenings, 15 & 22nd May 2014, in dry fine conditions. The eventual winner and High Gun was Bob Barnsley with a score of 44 Ex50, first pace in class A was Rob Thomas (43 Ex 50) and first place in class B, Jeff West (26 Ex50). The trophy was presented to Bob Barnsley by the club President Nigel Kavanagh.

 

Brockton Gun Club (Home)

We hosted Brockton Gun Club on Thursday 30th May 2014. The visitors arrived in numbers on what turned out to be a warm, sunny evening. We were on the back foot immediately, and lost the cup by 38 clays. The competition was decided by adding the top ten scores from each team, Brockton GC eventually won for the second year running with an aggregate score of 298. Our President Nigel Kavanagh gave thanks to the Brockton Members for attending, wished them a safe journey home and then presented the trophy to their captain.

 

The Sporting Handicap 2014

The Sporting Handicap took place on Thursday 5th June 2014. The weather conditions were fine and the attendance good. The 50 bird sporting competition saw plenty of good scores but the eventual winner and High Gun was Rick Willetts with a score of 50.2, first place went to Nigel Kavanagh (48.7) and second place to Ray Wesson (47.0). The trophy was presented to Rick Willetts by club President Nigel Kavanagh.

 

Brockton Gun Club (Away)

Our return trip to Brockton Gun Club, this year, was on Wednesday 11th June 2014. We arrived with a team of 14 members. The conditions for shooting were perfect and apart from an injury to our club President caused by a falling clay (even after being warned to wear head protection!) the event was enjoyed by those taking part. We lost the 50 bird sporting competition by 72 clays, Brockton GC running out winners with a total score of 380 Ex500 (an aggregate of the top 10 best scores), they retained the trophy for a second year running.

 

The ABT Cup 2014

The ABT competition for 2014 was shot on two consecutive Thursday Evenings 12th and 19th June 2014. The High Gun was Mr Richard Thomas with a score of 43 Ex50, Rob Thomas took first place (39) and second place was shared jointly by Ray Wesson and Nigel Kavanagh (22).

 

The All-Rounder 2014

The 100 bird All-Rounder competition 2014 was shot on Thursday 26th June 2014 and consisted of 50 Sporting, 25 Skeet and 25 DTL birds. The Winner and High Gun for the evening was Mr Richard Thomas with an aggregate score of 88 Ex100. First place in class A went to Rob Thomas (83) and first place in class B to Mr Dave Bayliss (58). The trophy was presented by club President Nigel Kavanagh.

 

The Sporting Cup 2014

The Sporting Cup 2014, a 50 bird sporting competition was shot on Thursday 10th July 2014 in very good conditions. The winner and High Gun was Mr Richard Thomas with a score of 40 Ex50, first place in Class A went to Paul Merchant (38) and first place in Class B to Geaorge Whitehouse (25). The President presented the winners trophy and thanked everyone for taking part.

 

Handicap Skeet 2014

The 50 bird Handicap Skeet competition was shot on two consecutive Thursday evenings, 10th and 17th July 2014. The shooting conditions on 10th July were very good but no so good the following weekand this reflected in the final scores. The winner and eventual High Gun was Mr Paul Merchant with an adjusted score of 51 Ex 50, first place went to Mr Jeff West (47) and second place to Mr Bob Barnsley (45). The club President presented the trophy and thanked everyone for taking part.

 

The DTL Cup 2014

This 50 bird Down the Line competition was shot on two consecutive Thursday evenings, 24th and 31st July 2014. The eventual winner and High Gun was Mr Rob Thomas with a score of 131 Ex150, Richard Thomas (127) took first place in Class A, and John Preece (106) first place in Class B. The President presented the cup and prizes.

 

The Trappers Handicap 2014

The Trappers Handicap 2014 took place on Thursday 7th August 2014 and Good shooting conditions saw a very high turn out. The competition consisted of 50 Sporting Target followed by 25 Skeet, 75 Birds in total. The winners and High Gun was Mr D Bayliss with an adjusted score of 83 Ex 75, first place went to Paul Merchant (81) and second place to Nigel Kavanagh (78). The club President, Nigel Kavanagh, presented the trophy to Dave Bayliss and thanked everyone for attending.

 

The Presidents Cup 2014

The Presidents Cup, a 50 bird scratch skeet competition, was shot on two cosecutive Thursday evenings 14th and 21st August 2014 and the shooting conditions were good on both nights. The winner and High Gun was Mr Richard Thomas with a score of 48 Ex 50, first place in Class A went to Mr Bob Barnsley (43) and first place in Class B to Mr Jeff West (28). The club President presented the trophy and prizes,

 

The Sporting Trophy 2014

The Sporting Cup 2014 took place on Thursday 28th August 2014 and as tradition holds it was a 50 bird handicap sporting competition and the final shooting night of the season. The shooting conditions were excellent and the turn out good. The winner and High Gun of this keenly fought competition was Mr Richard Thomas with an adjusted score of 52.8 Ex 50, first place went to Mr Peter Trice (52.3) and second place to Mr Paul Merchant (52.1). The Club President, Mr Nigel Kavanagh, presented the trophy and prizes.

 

The Veterans Cup 2014

The Veterans Cup 2014 was also contested on 28th August using the scratch scores from The Sporting Cup but adjusted by an age handicap, 0.8 handicap being awarded for each year over the age of 55. The winner of the Veterans Cup for 2014 was Mr Peter Trice (47.2), second was Mr Rob Thomas (44.2) and third Mr Bob Barnsley (41.4). The trophy was presented by the club President.

 

The High Pheasant Trophy 2014

The High Pheasant Trophy for 2014 was decided on the aggregate handicapped high pheasant stand scores from the Sporting Cup and Sporting Handicap competitions. The winner for 2014 was Ray Wesson with and adjusted score of 22.8 Ex 20, George whitehouse and Paul Merchant were joint second with a score of 19.20 Ex 20. The trophy will be presented at the forthcoming AGM.

 

The Aggregate Shield 2014

The final Trophy of the season, the Aggregate Shield 2014 was completed also on 28th August 2014. The Aggregate Shield is decided by adding the best seven competition scores (from a total of 10) for each member with the winner gaining the highest score. The winner for 2014, by les than 1 target, was Mr Richard Thomas with and aggregate score of 319.93, second place went to Mr Paul Merchant (319.00) and third place to Mr Rob Thomas (305.17). This was without doubt the smallest winning margin for a good many years. Well done to all members taking part. This trophy will also be presented at the forthcoming AGM.
